Welcome DA to the first edition of The Den of N(ink)witty. I am your host 50ftBuddha a.k.a SleentheBeast. Upon passing my first anniversary recently I decided to become more involved with the lit community here on DA.  I'm delighted to introduce my first guest. He's well known in the lit community on deviantArt a fantastic writer and great friend, please welcome the one and only... chromeantennae. Thanks for being here Rick. How are you bro?

I'm pretty decent, overall. A couple of little bumps in the road lately as I've sort of been struggling with my place in life at the moment (cliché, I know) but stepping back for a second to do these things like this-- which is such an honor, by the way, thank you-- really helps me feel okay. Even for a moment. And as far as dA is concerned, I'm just trying to get some things in order for a couple groups I'm involved with as well as my own interview series, so I'm definitely gonna be trying to make some moves this week if I can! And thank you, thank you again for the opportunity, bro.

1. Rick, you are one of DA's most well known young writers. Your presence can literally (pun intended) be found everywhere. You are such a supportive compassionate member of the lit community and an inspiration to members both old and new. Tell me... how did you first come across DA? What went through your mind when you created your initial account and uploaded your very first deviation?

First off, thank you for the love, brother. That really put a smile on my face, thank you. And I actually can't recall how I came across deviantART. I think maybe I was following another art site (fanart-central.net, haha) and someone I really liked was moving all of their artwork here (a considerably bigger site, obviously) so after I came across this place I pretty much forgot all about the other site, but that question definitely brought back some awesome memories so thank you for that, haha. And what went through my mind when I first created this? Honestly, I had two things on my mind: "I'm so glad Notre Dame won and I can't wait to get my infection started." That is a true story by the way 'cause I created this after a big win against either Stanford or USC a couple of years ago-- and I was also working on my Sonic fan fiction (It was called "The Destiny Phase," shout out to one of my best friends, SpriteBlayde for that title). I was just excited to get into the community because as I've said before, I thought for a long time I wasn't going to be serious about art but just a spectator. So when I posted my first deviation (a bio for my fan character in the series), I was just imagining how this thing would be an epic but I never really had the drive for it, honestly. I've come a long way from that, definitely, definitely. A part of me wants to give it another go ' cause I know it'd be a lot better and I'd be more focused but I'm also past Sonic infection in general, y'know? Just sort of outgrew that but I love Sonic because c'mon Nostalgia ultra!

2. Rick... you're a young man just getting ready to step out in the world and grab life with both hands. In todays world... with the influence of pop culture and digital media... what values do you hold dear and nurture within yourself as a man? How do you keep yourself grounded in them?

I value transparency and complete honesty. To just be completely me, no matter what society says or my folks or friends or whoever says otherwise. I'm aware of who I am as a person and what values I believe in and I just don't stray from those principles. I used to do that for people and acceptance, but no one and nothing is worth selling your soul for at the end of the day. I had to learn that the hard way but it was one of the most important lessons I've ever learned as a person.

3. As boys we grow up influenced by the men in our lives around us. Who were your role models? What qualities were instilled in you from them?

My mom and my dad, definitely. My grandmother had a lot more of an influence on me in my later teen years, encouraging me to start writing poetry (and that's obviously gone well for me), but growing up my mother and father had the biggest influence on me. My dad was always a straightshooter and my mom was the same, but a lot more tactfully. My dad learned a lot from his own mistakes and my mom was strong for my entire family. So the two biggest qualities I've learned from them is honesty and resiliency. Parents always talk about how much their children have grown but it's amazing to watch your parents grow up and grow into things, too. Honesty, perseverance, and trusting your senses have been the biggest qualities instilled in me from them. Other things are natural things like treat others how you want to be treated, always show people respect, etc., etc.

4. We all have moments in our lives which change us. Moments that begin to define who we will choose to become. Would you mind sharing such a moment from your life with us? How did this moment affect and change you?

I think it'd be best if I just shared a link to the deviation that really highlights all of that really well: Pure Love (Reasons Why) really means the world to me and that probably answers that question better than I could off the top of my head.

5. Rick, would you mind sharing your goals for the future? Where would you like your path through life to take you?

I just want to be able to be so monetarily off that I can produce art and push it to the masses for free, honestly. I want to travel the world and see it and be inspired by it and just create. I just want to live and roam and create with people I love without being restricted by money. If I can do that with my life, then I am happy. I want my voice to be heard and I want to live freely.

Thank you so much for taking the time out of what I know is a busy schedule to be here. Its a real pleasure and honor to have you as my first guest. Much love bro.

Thank YOU so much for taking time out to talk with ME, brother. I'm so appreciative of this opportunity to speak with you and everyone else, it's just really humbling. Things like these always refocus me on how amazing deviantART is as well as the people in this community-- especially our little literature community. Thank you all so very much for the support, you guys are truly amazing. And thank you all for being my friends. I love you all and your all beautiful, amazing, and incredible. Yes, YOU.
